ONE ROOM FLAT

One-Room Flat (2008) is a 12-minute documentary about 80-year-old Mdm Sin Yoke Kiew and 55-year-old Angie Chan, two residents living in one-room flats. Formerly a Samsui woman, Mdm Sin shares her life story and friendship with Angie Chan,
a Singaporean Permanent Resident from Thailand.

This film touches on how they manage to lead a simple, happy life despite having to battle the fate of living in one-room flats.

A group forgotten by many in the Singapore society, residents of one-room flats often have to scrimp and save just to have enough for their day-to-day survival. It is truly a case of “making every single cent count”. Despite living simple lives with the limited finance, they still manage to lead happy, contented lives.

Mdm Sin Yoke Kiew and Mdm Chan Xue Mei both passed away peacefully in 2010.
