FROM ASHES TO DUST
The 4 blocks of HDBs on East Coast Road are the last blocks of public housing in the entire Siglap district. In recent years, the Siglap neighbourhood has grown into an increasingly cosmopolitan neighbourhood with many lifestyle amenities, which include many eateries and pubs. (Goh, 2009.) These 48-year-old flats have been designated to be demolished in 2015 since news broke in The Straits Times in November 09, 2011, and is set to be re-developed under the government’s Selective En-Bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS). The owners and residents are set to be re-housed in new flats at Chai Chee Road that will be built by the Housing & Development Board (HDB).
